BridgePort™ HEC Model 9905P

The BridgePort™ Headend Control Unit Model 9905P is a multi-protocol status monitoring headend control unit (HEC) that manages transponders and network equipment from multiple vendors to form a unified status monitoring fabric. BridgePort accomplishes this integration through its ability to communicate with many brands and types of transponders and equipment in their native communications protocols. In addition to providing mediation of legacy monitoring protocols, Bridgeport also provides the capability to manage next-generation equipment that use the SCTE HMS monitoring protocols*. With the BridgePort HEC, network operators can continue to use their legacy monitoring transponders while enjoying all of the advantages of standards compliance and unified network monitoring.

The BridgePort HEC is essential to the operator who plans to begin using HMS-compliant equipment, yet its versatility allows it to be employed in a pure HMS, non-HMS, or hybrid HMS/non-HMS system. Both inside and outside plant equipment can monitored by the BridgePort HEC.

BridgePort can be equipped with up to 5 intelligent RF protocol cards, and each card can manage up to 2000 devices, for a total capacity of 10,000 monitored devices per BridgePort HEC. It is fully interoperable with the AM Networks 9170 polling switch, providing the best possible communications integrity in noisy RF networks. The unit is packaged in an industrial rack mounted chassis.

BridgePort is both an SNMP proxy agent and an SNMP manager. As a manager it uses the SNMP protocol to communicate with and manage network elements that have an SNMP interface. As a proxy agent, BridgePort collects monitoring information from network elements via their native protocols and presents that information to a host network manager in a concise format defined by the BridgePort SNMP MIB’s.

The need for a multi-protocol control unit that provides a bridge between legacy equipment and emerging HMS standards is clear. The BridgePort HEC is an effective solution to this problem that will meet the requirements of cable operators who must stay abreast of emerging standards without compromising the investments already made in their status monitoring systems.
